Fari Schlake

Fari Schlake is currently a last year Ph.D. candidate at the Bradley Department
of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech - expected completion
date of summer 2012. Her M.S. in EE (eqv) encompasses graduate work done at
George Washington University in US, Universities of Duisburg and Siegen in
Germany, 2002. She received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Darmstadt
University of Applied Sciences in Germany, in 1990.

In her research she strives solutions to critical cross-disciplinary real-life
problems. Her current research interest is in game and mechanism design
theoretical approaches to developing autonomous, efficient and socially
desirable network security protocols. She is interested in the cross-disciplinary
application of social behavioral sciences in systems and network-wide security
design. In particular, research of the effects of selfishness, bounded rationality,
conflict, and cooperation on achievement of system-wide socially desired
outcomes. She utilizes mathematical theoretical models to solve real-life technical
problems. Her earlier research focused on the areas of QoS Signaling and
Security Protocols for hybrid wired and wireless broadband networks with
emphasize in healthcare and telemedicine implementations.

Professionally, she has acquired extensive management and engineering
experiences on DoD and commercial projects in US and Germany. She has
established a successful track record of technical consulting and advisory,
project management and systems engineering on large-scale international
commercial and US-federal projects. She has worked with and for companies like
CACI Federal, Lockheed Martin, IBM, Loral Federal, Bell Atlantic and MCI (now
Verizon) in the US and Siemens in Germany.

Her activities in professional organizations encompass director of the IEEE
Washington DC Section and the chair of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine &
Biology Northern Virginia and Washington DC Chapter in 2007 to reactivate and
expand the chapter's activities.

She also is the President and Founder of Fari Enterprises LLC a holding
company for her technical and scientific research, advisory and consulting
services as well as her other entrepreneurial endeavors. She has also co-
founded Stravigant LLC, an Innovation Management and Technical Consulting
firm offering consulting services to Fortune 500 Companies internationally.
